Toowoomba Landcare In India: The Pilot Sister Catchment Program
In December 2006 Toowoomba Landcare Group gained funding through the Australia-India Council to establish the pilot of the Toowoomba and Bhopal Sister Catchments project. This project aims to establish a Landcare link with a micro-watershed (catchment) in the state of Madhya Pradesh , India . The community of this micro-watershed will be linked to the community of its ‘sister catchment' within the Toowoomba region. This linkage will be achieved through training on natural resource management (and sustainable livelihoods); offer professional development exchange activities; and the implementation of natural resource works within the micro-watershed to address natural resource management issues, such as land degradation and water conservation and quality.

Scott Graham,a representative of TLG recently travelled to India to pursue this program. To find out about his travels, experiences and findings go to www.toowoombaindia.blogspot.com or come along to our presentation evening on the 17th July. See the events page for more details.

Toowoomba Landcare Group Inc. was formed by a group of people interested in seeing the community of Toowoomba become more responsible and involved in looking after our natural resources. The group provides a focus for raising awareness of environmental issues and promotion of practical action.

They also seek to provide the opportunity for community members to 'get their hands dirty' in looking after the natural resources in Toowoomba and surrounding areas, and provide links to other like-minded groups. Activities that the group is involved in includes local animal and plant investigation, tree planting, bush regeneration, weed control and native animal habitat restoration. Toowoomba Landcare Group publish their newsletter 'get your hands dirty' every second month.

Toowoomba Landcare Group see their events as their meetings, although the executive get together regularly to progress general business. The group are action-orientated rather than meeting-focused, hence our slogan "Get Your Hands Dirty"!!! We are always looking for more people to become involved and welcome everyone to our events.
